A bit different than the more popular remixed version on the album, before they thought to add the 'Uh Uh, No No' to the title. ;) It also includes the awesome funky non-album track "Prove It". Here's another pop gem from 1986 by another artist whose album was featured on The Isle Of Deserted Pop Stars - Robey. As mentioned there, this single was her one and only on her new label, Chrysalis. It's a dance-pop tune in the same vein as those on her previous album. It's unknown whether she was to release a new album on Chrysalis or not, but if the bonus track here, "Paris, Paree", is any indication of the direction the album was to go, it would have been a very strange listen indeed. ;)

Regina - Head On (1986)

I did a post on the Isle Of Deserted Pop Stars early last year on Regina, the lady who had one big hit with the Madonna-esque "Baby Love" in 1986. As I mentioned, two other singles were released off of her album Curiosity, and here is the extended mixes of one of them. "Head On" is very similar to "Baby Love". This mix is very sample-heavy, repeating spoken bits from the song and even having a track, "One Minute Of Head", dedicated to the "Head" in the title.

Shirley Lewis - (You Used To Be) Romantic (1988)

I did a post on Shirley Lewis on The Isle Of Deserted Pop Stars some time ago, and mentioned that this single preceded her album on A&M Records and likely led to her album deal. It does not appear on the album, but would have fit well with its poppier side. As my friend Max pointed out, it is a remake of the Jo Joe song from 1987 and is very similar, not surprising considering it was produced by the same team of Jolley/Harris/Jolley, who also wrote it. The remixes here dance it up a bit.

B.J. Nelson - Evidence Of Love (1989)

Brenda Jay Nelson is known primarily as a session singer. She has done backing vocals for many acts including Nona Hendryx, Freddie Jackson, Melba Moore, Al Green and even a couple Isle postees - Nokko and Vanessa Paradis. Her greatest fame as a backing singer was with the group Scritti Politti, and her vocals were even featured up front in one of their songs, "Hypnotize" (one of my fave songs, BTW - and that's not her in the video, alas). Another artist she did backing vocals for was Robert Palmer, who produced this song and her entire self-titled debut album, which was a soul-pop affair, as is this song. It failed to make any sort of impression, and Ms. Nelson went back to session singing. Check out her Myspace page for her current goings-on.

Julia Santana - Love Has A Name (1990)

I knew nothing of Julia Santana other than this track, and I hadn't really even listened to it much. It's a fun, little known freestyle track that includes a good house mix on the 12". Julia released two other freestyle tracks with the same production duo of Kenny Krytell and Louis Caceres - "Sooner Or Later" on Posse Records in 1988 and "Surrender Your Heart" on MicMac in 1991. This was her only track that was released on a major label, Atlantic, likely due to the presence of heavyweight remixers Mojoe Nicosia (who also remixed Isle postees Chena, Tricia Leigh Fisher and Rumorz) and Charlie Casanova (who also remixed Isle postees Blue Pearl, Cindy Valentine and Jomanda). So I was surprised to see that Julia is still active in the music biz (and looking good!), having appeared as Mimi in Rent and recorded new music in her favoured genre, rock. It's been awhile, I know, but I'm back with a few more gems. First up is this remake of the 1975 Silver Convention disco classic. It was released on Canada's Sizzle Records as a double A side with Natasha's freestyle song "Be Gentle With My Heart". Like that track, I suspect it was produced by the man behind most of Sizzle Records' releases, Teneen Ali (see previous post on Shari), though production is credited to the 'Sizzle Connection'. It is basically a straight-forward remake, with a little less disco and a little more synth.

Here is a little-known Canadian freestyle/house track that really must be heard. It has a very similar vibe to the electro house songs produced by the Komix crew (which includes previous postee Jillian Mendez) but with a more freestyle flavour. It was produced by Tzvi Erez, who was partly responsible for previous postee Patrick L. Myles' big hit "My Heart's On Fire", which was also released on Vincent Degiorgio's Power label. Degiorgio and Erez wrote the track with singer Ronit Benyovits. Love this track!

Nancy Kay - King Of The Jungle (Cum A Laude Veste) (1988)

Nancy Kay is Nancy K. Goltsman, wife of house and freestyle producer and head of Bottom Line Records Edward Goltsman, better known as Ed The Red. Together they wrote and produced many an underground house and freestyle song. They also released music together under the monikers ODC and Red Follies. Nancy released only two singles of her own, the other being "Sun Above The Rain (Fly Away)". "King Of The Jungle" is a very unique track, a house/freestyle hybrid with plenty of jungle and even Tarzan samples. In fact, the Samplepella is just a bunch of the samples used strung together. Definitely a fun, original dance track!

Kristine Morrell - Been So Long / Walk Away (1992)

I can only assume that Kristine Morrell is a Canadian artist. I cannot find any info on her on the internet, but she did release her first single "Love Thing" on the awesome Canadian house label Blast Records in 1990. It was picked up by MCA Records and released as a promo in 1991, which I have and will hopefully feature in the future - I tried to rip the vinyl but it keeps skipping. :( That is a fun pop house song, and so is "Been So Long", which was released independently in the US. The B side, "Walk Away," is a change of pace, a very sexy mid-tempo funk track. Check out the 8 and a half minute long 'Minneapolis Purple Sex Remix', a hypnotic, trippy and funky ride.

Shari, like previous postee Yasmine, is a one-named mystery girl who was produced by Canadian Hi-NRG and freestyle producer Teneen Ali. Also like Yasmine, Shari's single is a Hi-NRG remake, this time of The Archies classic. Unlike Yasmine, Shari did record at least one other single, the better known freestyle song "Stop If You Want My Lovin'", also produced by Teneen Ali, which you can download at Freestyle Rebirth. Sharon Lee Williams - Your Place Or Mine (1989)

Sharon Lee Williams is well known in the Canadian music industry, but she only ever released one single as a solo artist. She did manage a hit as part of the group Sway and their remake of Ottawan's "Hands Up" in 1987 (which I also mentioned on The Isle in the Chantal Condor post. ;) and contributed vocals to the work of many other artists. Her only solo release was released a couple of years after the Sway hit, and the original is very 80s pop/R&B. The 'Your Place Mix' is a lot faster and has a very Pointer Sisters-ish sound, and the 'My Place Mix" is a lot funkier. But my fave is the 'Percusappella'. Sharon is still involved in the music industry and has even been a vocal coach for Canadian Idol. She currently runs her own vocal coaching company out of Toronto, MusicEnt Productions.

Sonia Papp - Undercover Lover (1988)

Here is our next Canadian dance diva, Quebec's Sonia Papp. There is very little info available on this little lady, even though she released three albums in 1990s - the first two, in 1990 and 1993, (with the spelling of her first name chanced to Sonya) very dancey pop albums, and the last, in 1993, much more pop rock. I have all three albums and plan on featuring them on The Isle Of Deserted Pop Stars in the future, so I'll leave the details to a minimum here. Suffice it to say, this was her first single, a Hi-NRG number with a light house touch that remains her best known song. It was produced by John Farley, who also worked on Pobi's "Dance With Me", also featured here, and later with Nancy Martinez. Enjoy!

Kim Esty - Make You Mine (1988?)

I have once again neglected this blog, and I apologize, but I return with peace offerings - a slew of pop-dance singles by Canadian female singers. I featured Kim Esty on the Isle Of Deserted Pop Stars already, so go there for more info on the lady. This single was one of her first, independently released somewhere in the late 1980's (the single itself doesn't say). It's a mid-tempo dance pop song (the version on her Variety Show and Best Of is a newer, ballad version) that was her first collaboration with Barry Harris from Thunderpuss, who would guide her to later success. The Hi-Bias and RPM mixes change the pace to housey and hip hop-ish respectively. And it also features one of the first remixes by Barry's future Thunderpuss partner Chris Cox. A lovely track that began a lengthy career in pop music.

Nightcat - #1 House Rule (1991)

This single is one that reminds me why I enjoy doing these blogs. You just never know what you're going to find out about these artists! I thought this was just a random one off single by some pop tart, but instead Nightcat was a creation of Marvel Comics! Marvel creator Stan Lee wanted to develop a female superhero who crossed over into the real world. Like Dazzler, this hero was also a rock singer. So they released an issue of the Nightcat comic book and hired actress/singer Jacqueline Tavarez to embody Nightcat in real life. They recorded an entire album simply titled Nightcat. This was the only single. Both the comic and album bombed and Jacqueline was fired, she claims because she appeared in a music video by Long Island Lolita Amy Fisher's ex-lover Joey Buttafuoco!! She has since appeared nude in the film Tromeo And Juliet and that's about it. For more on the Nightcat story, go HERE. I would have died for this had I known it existed back in the day, as I was both a music and comic book fiend! As for this song, it's actually a really good dance pop track (like something from Pajama Party, whose 'ghost' vocalist Nikki Gregoroff also has credits on the Nightcat album and is likely the one actually singing this), and the remixes give it a tasty house edge. Apparently the rest of the album is very rock oriented, but I would still LOVE to get my hands on it!

Queen B - Red Top Hot Shot (1989)

Queen B was a British duo comprised of Belinda Lee (nee Leith) and Ray Kovacs. This was their only single, and though it was given a huge push in the UK, it was not a hit. Plans for an album were scrapped and the two broke up. The duo Shampoo would have greater success with this punk-pop sound a few years later. Belinda later joined the alt-rock group Daisy Chainsaw, replacing the lead singer. It is rumoured that the original Queen B songs have recently gotten a publisher behind them, so perhaps we'll hear more soon.

Exception - Jump With It (1986)

This is another of those imports that I picked up from a dollar bin back in the day. I know nothing about Exception other than that the song was written and produced by British production trio Jolley/Harris/Jolley, who would later go on to release their own songs under monikers like Spider, Circuit and Mann. (Perhaps this was just another moniker.) They had their greatest success many years after this as trippy soul act Innocence, which was fronted by Isle Of Deserted Pop Stars featured artist, Gee Morris. This is one of their earliest works, and is clearly made to sound like a Stock, Aitken and Waterman song, especially something by Mel & Kim. It was even released on Mel & Kim's SAW based label, Supreme (that's SAW act Princess' hand you see on the sleeve). One other song was released by Exception, "Slap You Back", which appeared on the Mona Lisa soundtrack the same year, and it's unsurprisingly reminiscent of something by Princess.

Adele Bertei - When It's Over (1985)

I featured Adele Bertei's one solo album from 1988 on the Isle Of Deserted Pop Stars some time ago. Before she moved into that adult contemporary sound, she released a couple of solo dance singles. She released the Thomas Dolby produced "Build A Bridge" in 1983, and this was her follow up. It was produced in part by David Gamson and Fred Maher of popular Brit new wave group Scritti Politti and also features vocals by their frontman Green Gartside, so it sounds a lot like a Scritti Politti track. She would go on to do featured vocals on dance hits by Jellybean and Arthur Baker, and also explore other musical avenues.

Yasmine - Toda La Vida (1987)

Another mystery artist, this track by Yasmine came out on Canadian label Sizzle and was produced by Canadian Hi-NRG and freestyle maestro Teneen Ali, probably best known for his work with Nancy Martinez. It is an English, Hi-NRG remake of the Italian song "Tutta La Vita" originally recorded by Lucio Dalla in 1984, and then remade in Spanish in 1986 as "Toda La Vida" by two artists, Franco and Emmanuel. In fact, Emmanuel's version replaced Franco's version on top of Billboard's Hot Latin Tracks chart. I believe that this is Yasmine's only release.

Denise Motto - Tell Jack (Jack The House) (1987)

I know nothing about Denise Motto. All I can tell you is that her first release was the double sided single "Miss Demeanor / IMNXTC" in 1986. While "Miss Demeanor" was a Bobby Orlando-ish Hi-NRG song which Denise sang the vocals on, "IMNXTC" was an acid house-ish track on which she spoke. It was such a huge hit in the clubs that she released it again a year later as "I M N X T C (Jack Your Body To The Beat)", as well as the track "Doing It Properly - Is XTC". This was at the height of the 'jack' craze (the most poppish example being the Reynolds Girls' "I'd Rather Jack"). "Tell Jack" was the next single and very much in the same vein. It is one of my fave house tracks. She released one more double sided single, "Totally Serious / Every Woman", before disappearing.

Jillian Mendez - Get Up (1988)

Jillian Mendez was born in Trinidad but grew up in Toronto. She kicked around the Toronto music scene for several years and finally hooked up with local house label Bigshot Records. This was her first track on the classic label, with production by the label's co-founder, the legendary Andrew Komis aka Komix, who created a very distinct electro house sound. It became a minor hit in the UK, and is one of my all-time faves. She released another single on Bigshot, "Don't Know What You're Missin", and a single on major label 4th & Broadway (as Gillian Mendez), "Feel Like Making Love" (which included a remix of "Get Up" - I'll feature that single in the future). She is still active in music and was performing in Toronto in the late 2000s with her funk/rock/jazz band Groove Matrix, with whom she was said to be recording an album. Fire On Blonde - Bounce Back (1987)

As promised, here is another single from LA group Fire On Blonde. (I posted another single, "Stop And Think", awhile back HERE.) The song was later recorded by pop singer Alisha in 1990 and was a minor hit for her, but not for Fire On Blonde. The versions are virtually the same only with different vocals, which makes sense as both versions were produced by 80s and 90s pop maestro Michael Jay (as was the single "Wrong Number", which was also released by both acts).

Stiletto Fetish - I Think I Love You (1989)

Now for something a little different. Stiletto Fetish were a sassy Canadian female duo who had a small underground cult following in the late 80s/early 90s. Kim Jacobson and Liane Alliston specialized in provocative rap rock with a goth edge. This was their first self-released single, a remake of the Partridge Family hit, with the original track 'Broke On Coke'. The video got a lot of play back in the day. They later changed their name to just The Fetish and released one self-titled mini-album in 1992, which I have posted on the Isle. According to Kim they were signed to Warner UK (but never released anything on it), and she is now a flight attendant and Liane is apparently married to a rich man. LOL This is a very acquired taste, but it is amazing how many people have requested this in the past. Enjoy?

Canadian singer Sheree Jeacocke began her long recording career in 1985 and released several albums and singles in many different genres over the next 13 years years as either just Sheree (under which she had her biggest hit "Woman's Work"), just Jeacocke, Deeva or her full name. (To download two of her albums, please visit The Music Conflux.) J-Cock appears to be the last moniker she used before she pretty much left the music industry to pursue real estate. For a fairly comprehensive look at her discography, go HERE. She was also featured on the Pleasure Beat track I also posted HERE. This track seems to be her last proper physical release, and is a mid-tempo soul version of the Stevie Wonder classic with some ragga flavour added by Mystah Munroe.

Fire And Ice was one of the many monikers that Canadian HiNRG king Vincent Degiorgio used to release his numerous HiNRG tracks. This track is an almost exact remake of The Flirts' hit. The vocals are by Linda Hanchar, formerly of the Canadian disco group Harlow. While the vocals are better than The Flirts' version, I feel this version lacks the pep that the Flirts gave the song.

Karen Silver - Hot Wired (1988)

Karen Silver was a singer from Toronto who hooked up with French-Canadian disco maestro Gino Soccio in the late 1970s. With his help she released two albums, Hold On I'm Comin' in 1979 and Set Me Free in 1981. She would have international disco hits from both albums. She released a few more singles throughout the 1980s, with this apparently being her last. I am guessing at the release year as it is not on the single, but I saw her perform "Hot Wired" on Electric Circus around this time. While "Babylon" is an okay dance-pop number on which she raps, and "Hard To Say Goodbye" is a nice ballad, "Hot Wired" is definitely the highlight here, with two good house mixes (the first has a slight skip - sorry!). Today Karen is a make-up artist, having left the music world behind in 1991 after graduating from the Toronto School Of Make-Up.

Again I present you with a girl group that I can find zilch about. They were signed to Motown and this was apparently their only single. It seems Motown was looking for something a little different than their typical soul & R&B at the time, and this song has a more poppy, new wave edge to it (to me it sounds similar to Mai Tai or Say When?, whose "Boys" I posted here earlier). They managed to release an album as well, Truth For The Moment, but it appears neither went anywhere. The remixes are by popular 80s duo John Morales and Sergio Munzibai.

It's very similar to the works of Nancy Martinez, and also includes a nice house mix by the K. Bros. I believe that this was Fausta's only single.

Lizzie Tear was a lovely British lass who had promise that was unfortunately never fully realized. She was signed and produced by the group ABC, and an EP, Enter The Lizard, was released as well as several singles in the late 1980s. This track is indeed an ode to the Marvel superhero. The Radical Mix is by Tim Simenon of Bomb The Bass and Nellee Hooper of Soul II Soul, but is mostly instrumental. I prefer the Apocalypse Surf Mix, which is a lost freestyle classic, IMO, in the vein of Mantronix.

Another Canadian single that I have no info on other than it was produced by Richard Buck, who has worked with other Canadian dance acts like Lime, Nancy Martinez and Trans-X. It is a hi-NRG remake of the song made famous first in 1945 by Dick Haymes and again in 1966 by Chris Montez, though it is most similar to the version by French artist Valli released a year earlier.

Jayne - In My House (1989)

Jayne is Jayne Collins, an actress and singer. She hooked up with Frank Farian, of Milli Vanilli and Boney M fame, and recorded a cover of Jennifer Rush's "Madonna's Eyes" in 1985. A few years later she released an album in Germany called Ambush In The Night (on my wish list!) and this was the first single, an acid-house remake of the Mary Jane Girls funk hit. She would garner more attention years later, when she starred on the 100th episode of Baywatch in 1995, where she performs the song "No Turning Back", written by Mike Stock and Matt Aitken (and the clip is on Youtube). It was a very minor UK hit. Ms. Collins is now a successful casting director.

Here we have a Lost Pop Treasures first! I am going to post two versions of the same song, released the same year! First up is Fire On Blonde's version of "Stop And Think". They were a band from LA, fronted by Suzie Benson. This is their best known song, though they released two other singles, "Bounce Back" and "Wrong Number", which were later covered and released as singles by pop diva Alisha. They never managed to release an album, alas. I'll post their version of "Bounce Back" in the future. But "Stop And Think" was also covered by another singer that same year, Michelle Goulet, which is up next. BTW, Suzie has continued on as a back up vocalist for the likes of Cher, Kelly Clarkson and Katharine McPhee.

Here's another Canadian rarity from 1987. According to the press release included with this, Kumari grew up in England and got her art degree, then hooked up with her brother Seri to make music. They moved to Canada to pursue a music career, making "a blend of British and American R&B sounds performed at a Techno pop level". I remember the video for "Shake" was played quite a bit on Canadian TV. Apparently only one other single and video, "Rock Your Baby", was released.

Jannetta - Mark On My Heart (1992)

Patti Jannetta has kicked around the Canadian music scene for some time, releasing singles from the beginning of the 80s to the mid-90s. She released three indie albums of mostly dance pop which garnered some success in Canada and Japan. She is still heavily involved in the scene. For her bio, go HERE. As a point of interest for fans of the Isle, the bio mentions that she worked closely with two Isle postees - Manee and Carol Medina. I hope to feature her albums on the Isle in the future. She first came to my attention when she performed the track "Party Girl" in the early days of Toronto dance show Electric Circus. It was a hilarious performance, not because of Jannetta, but the motley crew of dancers around her. (BTW, the cover image featured here is from the album of the same name, not the single.)

I remember seeing the video on the old Muchmusic show Soul In The City, and I fell in love with this poppy electro funk song. I never really learned anything about Odette other than what is posted on the record cover. She did release another great track, "Love Walked (Out Of My Life)" as simply Odette, which I will post in the future.

Louisa Florio is a Canadian singer, I believe from Toronto. Her best known single is arguably this track, which was a minor success locally. It was produced by Harry Hinde, who formerly worked with disco groups, but is more notorious for being the man who produced Shania Twain's pre-country music demos in the 1980s. Louisa also released a self-titled, Hinde-produced, dance-pop album as well as a follow-up album, Instant Reaction (both are featured now on The Isle Of Deserted Pop Stars) and several other singles. There are also videos of her performing other songs live on Youtube, though recent info on her is hard to come by.

From what I can gather, Nikki's full name is Nikki Verbreyt, she was from Belgium, and this was her only single (and shouldn't be confused with the male Nikki featured on the Isle Of Deserted Pop Stars). It a very hip-house track, with Nikki's accented white girl rap way up front. It was also released just as "Mucho Macho", and the original version was apparently a very early production of one of the kings of eurohouse, Serge Ramaekers (Cartouche, T-Spoon, DHT).

I believe that Evans & Fisher were an Italian act, said to consist of very non-Italian named Tommy Evans and Danny Fisher. This is their remake of the Tina Charles disco classic. I had actually never heard the song until I got my hands on this version, which has a very Italo-disco feel. They released a few other singles using this name as well, and also produced other acts and ran a record label. (The single edit is from a separate 7" and thus is of different quality.)

I suspect that she is now a country singer known as Violet Ray, thanks to an upload on Youtube. And I did see her perform this song on the dance show Electric Circus. Whatever the case, this is a tropical dance track with Latin and Carribean flavour. It was remixed by the crew who worked on the Lois And Lane track I posted a few days ago - K-Bros and Earl Torno.

Glass - It's Amazing (1989)

Like Girls Talkin', which I posted recently, Glass is also a mysterious girl group comprised of sisters (Gemma, Shauna, Nicola and Dana) who are apparently from the UK and emerged in 1989. They managed to release two singles, however, the other being their remake of The Supremes "Stop In The Name Of Love", which I'll post later. This track is the better of the two, a very trippy house jam produced by David Barratt, who would later work with Taylor Dayne and Anastacia, among others, and remixed by Freddy Bastone. The 'Mental Penetration Mix' is a dub version that samples Tears For Fears' "Change". The other track, "Real Love", was produced by Jah Wobble, strangely enough.

Lois And Lane - Turn On The Night (1987)

Lois And Lane are a mystery group from Canada that released this one track, though a remix 12" was also issued with the extra track "Keep It Up" (both 12"s are included here). The original version of "Turn On The Night" is an awesome, overlooked electro freestyle jam, one of my faves of all time. The remix release included a slightly altered, extended version and a house mix, but the revelation is "Keep It Up", another solid freestyle track. The songs are produced by the K-Bros, a prolific Canadian 80s house and HiNRG team, and the lead vocals sound suspiciously like Sheree Jeacocke, who also appears on the Pleasure Beat track I posted earlier and whose albums are featured on The Music Nexus: Reloaded. She worked with the K-Bros at one point, so it would be no surprise.

Here is a single from the 1980's that I bought on vinyl from the Netherlands a couple of years ago. It's Say When!, the duo comprised of Elvira Valentine and Ingrid Simons, whose albums I have fondly featured on the Isle Of Deserted Pop Stars under their other monikers: Goddess and B.B. Queen. As Say When! they released a few singles in the late 1980s in Europe, which I plan on getting all of at some point. They were produced by the team behind successful Dutch girl group Mai Tai, and their sound is very similar. A rare must have for any Goddess or B.B. Queen fans.

Pleasure Beat is basically Canadian Brad Daymond of Love Inc and J Cock, who is better known as Sheree Jeacocke, or just Sheree OR Jeacocke (I will feature her solo work, which includes two albums and an EP, on the Isle in the future). Another dance remake of the song was also a hit for Sunblock a few years ago. The only other track released under the Pleasure Beat moniker was their eurohouse remake of Alanis Morissette's "Hand In My Pocket".

This was the lead-off single from Carol Jiani's 'comeback' album of the same name. Carol was a disco and hi-NRG diva and gay icon in the 1970's and 80's, best known for the song "Hit 'N Run Lover". The Superstar single and album were apparently only released in Canada. This song, a nice house number, is oddly an obvious scolding and critique of Michael Jackson and his child molestation charges. I wonder how she feels about it today...

This song originally appeared on Jane Child's 1989 self-titled debut album, from which came her only hit "Don't Wanna Fall In Love". Soon after the September 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center, she remixed and released the song as a single, with the proceeds going to the Twin Towers Fund. It is quite rare and was released on her own label, Sugarwave, as was her album Surge the same year.

Papaya (aka Miss Papaya) was a project headed by Danish singer Linnéa Handberg meant to capitalize on the bubblegum pop craze started by Aqua. This single was picked up for the US by Madonna's label Maverick at her daughter Lourdes' suggestion. It was not a hit and this was the only single released in the US, though an album, Pink, and a few more singles had limited release in Scandanavia and Japan. Handberg soon abandoned the project and embarked on a more mainstream pop career in Scandanavia using her real name.

Holly Palmer was signed to a major label, Reprise, in 1997 and released her self-titled debut, which was folk-rock meets soul-funk (and I plan on getting it soon). This track was from that album and remixed for the dance clubs, but with little fanfare. It also contains the track "All I Really Wanna Do" from the Party Of Five soundtrack. She has independently released several promising albums since that explore different sounds, and had a dance club hit in 2003 with a remix of the trip-hoppy "Just So You Know". A contender for the Isle once I get her debut!

A follow-up "Lost Ur Mind" was released digitally but didn't do well, so a physical release and an album were scrapped. Great track, and the lost album tracks are equally great. Alex is planning on releasing a new album soon, thankfully.

International Chrysis is really Dead Or Alive. Pete and Steve decided to release this under another name so people didn't associate it with Dead Or Alive, in the hopes of grabbing a new audience. It didn't work, especially since Pete's voice is unmistakable. It is a remake of the David Bowie classic, and also includes another track, The Right Stuff. Both tracks later appeared on the Dead Or Alive album Nukleopatra.

Sheryl Lee Ralph is best known as an actress from her performance in Dreamgirls on Broadway and the television shows It's A Living and Moesha. But she also released music, and had a top ten dance hit in 1984 with "In The Evening", the title track from her only solo album. She had another top 40 dance hit from the album, "You're So Romantic", and also released remixes of another album track in 1997, "Evolution". But the only new track she released since her debut was the song featured here, a euro-house remake of one of Eurythmics' best hits.

I have no idea if La Rissa is actually a solo artist or the work of a group of producers, and I don't care. All I know is that this song is one of the hottest freestyle/electro/breakbeat songs ever! Though it didn't make the proper dance charts, it did reach number 3 on the Billboard Hot Dance Maxi-Singles Sales chart. It was followed by a much less successful single "Someone To Love Me" (featuring a different vocalist, Eyra Gail, whose self-titled debut album is featured on the Isle Of Deserted Pop Stars!). It's a must have track, with the original mix by far the best here.

Bliss was a Canadian R&B/pop girl group. They released only two singles, this being their first, followed by "Can't Deny". They were minorly successful in Canada, and I had the fortune of meeting one of them years later at a friend's house party (the blonde front and center on the CD cover). She was shocked and thrilled that I recognized her, and basically said the group didn't get enough publicity and support to bother continuing on. The mixes here are R&B and house.
